Initial Post-Draft Depth Chart for San Francisco 49ers
John Raoux/Associated Press

The San Francisco 49ers will have some tough decisions to make in the coming months regarding their depth chart.

At the time of this writing, the Niners have the rights to 93 players. By the beginning of the regular season, they'll have to shape their pool of players into a 53-man roster.

With one of the deepest rosters in the league, some NFL-caliber players won't make the team. And that's only part of the task at hand.

The Niners also must decide who will be starting and getting the bulk of the playing time.

The following slides are a position-by-position breakdown of San Francisco's depth chart. The bolded players are who I believe will be on the Week 1, 53-man roster. The backups are listed from most- to least-expected playing time at the position noted on their slide.

Author's notes: I avoided predicting which players will get suspended. If a player is suspended before the season, he won't count against the Week 1, 53-man roster, which would open up another spot. NaVorro Bowman is the only potential starter who is projected to not be healthy by Week 1. That's why his name is italicized on the linebacker slide. Offensive starting lineup based on 21 personnel (one RB, one FB, one TE, two WRs). Defensive starting lineup based on standard 3-4.
