The 2009-10 season has ended in even more misery for the Madrid side as they lost the last match to their bitter rivals Barcelona on the last day of the season. Real Madrid were relegated to the Segunda Division way before the last game.
The big money signings Ronaldo and Kaka had failed them even before the season started. As both of them wanted the nine numbered jersey, and as both of them have highly inflated egos, none backed out of that fight.
The fight grew so much so that both Kaka and Ronaldo packed their bags and returned to their homes and started training for the World Cup and Perez like their Daddy tried to end their fight, but none of them wanted to return to Madrid as Perez wanted both of them to play together.
Perez could not even sell them as no one had the money to meet Real's valuation and buy them or even give them their complete salaries if they matched the valuation as none of the two would accept a pay-cut.
So Real Madrid had to start their season with their depleted squad as they had sold nine players (Heinze, Robben, Van Der Vaart, Sneijder, Van Nistelrooy, Huntelaar, Drenthe, Saviola and M. Diarra) without searching and buying their replacements.
So Real Madrid had to put out their weakest side full of their academy players (who suck by the way) with their new "average" manager. Real Madrid had already changed their target to a mid-table finish.
Real Madrid started their campaign against the recently promoted Tenerife, Tenerife took full advantage of the highly incompetitive defense of Real Madrid and put eight past Iker Casillas and Real Madrid with the lone goal of Gonzalo Higuain lost the match 8-1.
People expected Real to bounce back but they kept aside the fact they no longer had the services of Heinze at Left Back and also that they had sold the really fast, young and injury free Rudd Van Nistelrooy.
But Real did bounce back the next match against Sporting Gijon and scored two goals and gave away only four, a real improvement indeed.
Real Madrid started to put up a string of decent performances but had no points to show for it as they lost those games 2-1 or 1-0 but after a few matches their bad form came back to haunt them and Real Madrid started losing with bigger margins.
It looked as though January couldn't come early for Real Madrid, but they had already taken so much loan in buying Ronaldo and Kaka and paying their salaries that they could not afford to buy another player.
Meanwhile the fans were not angry as Perez had promised entertainment and that's what was served as Real Madrid lost many games with the scoreline 8-1, 6-2, 7-2, Hell, if goals aren't entertaining then what is?
Real Madrid were starting to pay off their loans with the shirt sales (€1,000 per shirt), Many expected that no one would buy Ronaldo or Kaka's shirts but even at that price people were buying those shirts as they were pretty darn comfortable.
Real Madrid with seven matches to go were already relegated but they had one thing to cheer about that they would go debt free to the Segunda Division.
In the last seven matches Real Madrid started to really come around and managed four draws against Valladolid, Osasuna, Malaga and Atletico Madrid.
This was a really bad season for Los Blancos as they finished with just four points. The Madristas are looking forward to return to La Liga in four or five years. Some are also saying that if Perez would have learned something and bought some defenders first then maybe a mid-table finish could have been achieved successfully.
Many of the writers at b/r who said that Real Madrid would win the La Liga this year have changed their names and have closed their accounts permanently and left their homes to live in a jungle.
Note: I have been following the Real Madrid section of b/r very very carefully and I have been reading many things which I am not very happy about and I hope THIS takes care of everything, Gracias.
