Miguel Cotto: "Manny Pacquiao Doesn't Impress Me at All"

The Puerto Rican news Web site elnuevodia.com is reporting today that one of its country's most recently famous boxing superstars, Miguel Angel Cotto, has spoken out in an interview.

Cotto, it claims, is not concerned in the least regarding the 145-pound catch weight that has reportedly been agreed upon by both boxing camps as well as Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.

This is only the beginning of what will no doubt be a hype-filled four months leading up to a soon-to-be-announced welterweight super-fight between the Puerto Rican-born Cotto and Filipino No. 1 pound-for-pound sensation Manny Pacquiao.

"Its no concern of mine whether it is 145 pounds or not," Cotto said.

"That is the usual weight that we cut down to for the weigh in, and in the ring—on fight night—I will go up eight to 10 pounds, so actually during the fight I will weigh around 155," stated Cotto.

According to the Web site, Cotto supposedly stated this after completing a press conference for the presentation of a portrait on behalf of his company Miguel Cotto Promotions, which was donated to the opening of a new sports field in his name.

Cotto also made statements regarding Pacquiao's performances in his last three fights, in which he achieved victories over David Diaz, Oscar De La Hoya, and Ricky Hatton in three different divisions.

"I'm not impressed at all by him and his so-called speed and power; he has two arms and a head, and so do I," said Cotto, who, after his fights with Antonio Margarito and Joshua Clottey, is fast becoming the blood-and-guts throw-back-style warrior that the sport is in desperate need of.

When asked about this great opportunity for him—with a win over Pacquiao—to become the top boxer on the world's elite pound-for-pound stage, the modest Cotto simply shrugged it off.

"Opportunity's in life arrive when they arrive, we deal with them when they get here," he said.

To sum it up, the Puerto Rican slugger also said Tuesday: "We are awaiting confirmation of the fight, and when it arrives we will be very seriously committed to putting on the greatest fight possible for the fans."

Apollo Creed: "This is who I'm looking for. The Italian Stallion."
Jergens: "Rocky Balboa? Never heard of him."
Apollo Creed: "Look, it's the name man. The I-talian Stallion. The media will eat it up. Now who discovered America? An Italian, right? What better way to get it on than with one of its descendants?"
Apollo's Trainer: "He's a southpaw. I don't want you messing with southpaws. They do everything backwards."
Apollo Creed: "Southpaw nothing. I'll drop him in three. Apollo Creed meets the Italian Stallion. Now that sounds like a damn monster movie."
