30 Worst Drake Sports Fanboy Moments

1 of 31

Non-threatening Canadian rapper Drake is arguably the most highly visible and enthusiastic sports fan in the world right now. Drake has become such a courtside fixture at basketball games in recent years that when he misses a game, he probably gets dozens of texts from people concerned about his well-being.

Unlike other celebrity sports fans such as Jack Nicholson and Spike Lee, who limit themselves and their fandom to passionately supporting one team, in recent years Drake has become such a spectacle in the sports world because he doesn't feel encumbered by things like loyalty or tradition.

Drake is the quintessential bandwagon fan, not to mention an unabashed fanboy. He’s been a loyal fan of the Heat…since they signed LeBron James. He’s been a dedicated Kentucky basketball fan…since they started winning national championships. He’s been a passionate Raptors fan since late 2013.

Perhaps because he is one himself, what Drake really values is superstars. He never misses an All-Star game or an opportunity to schmooze, no matter how awkward or inappropriate it may be. And because the only thing he seems to value is his celebrity status, we (the public) never miss an opportunity to troll him.

Here are Drake's 30 worst sports fanboy moments.

Thank Me Now

    USA TODAY Sports

    Event: Nets vs. Raptors

    Date: Jan. 11, 2014

Since the Raptors epic mascot was out most of the season with an injury, they got Drake to fill in. His bandwagon fandom was apparently important enough to the city of Toronto that he got his own game-day press conferences.

Headlines

    Event: Raptors vs. Nets

    Date: Jan. 13, 2014

Drake was called upon to announce the Raptors starting lineup prior to a game against the Nets in January. Though when the video starts, it looks more like a religious experience than a guest announcer gig.

Event: 2014 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest

    Date: Feb. 15, 2014

Drake stands by in awe as Raptors swingman Terrence Ross goes up for a dunk. Seriously, does he really need to be there?

Make Me Proud

Event: 2014 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest

    Date: Feb. 15, 2014

What goes up, must come down. Drake was there for Terrence Ross when he went up for the dunk, and he was right there with a hug when he came down.

Worst Behavior

6 of 31

    Event: Kentucky vs. Wake Forest

    Date: March 20, 2010

For some unknown reason, former Kentucky forward DeMarcus Cousins conducted his entire post game interview with a giggling Drake cozily tucked away under his arm. I don't think I've ever seen Drake happier.

Lord Knows

Event: Spurs vs. Heat, 2014 NBA Finals (Game 7)

    Date: June 20, 2013

This one isn't particularly fanboy, but Drake is making a stupid face here, and surely some people have to appreciate that as much as I did. That shirt probably has a Heat logo on the back, and the one underneath has a Spurs logo on it—just in case.

Crew Love

Event: 2012 Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Game

    Date: Jan. 29, 2012

Drake hanging with the softest dudes in the NHL, twin brothers Henrik and Daniel Sedin. Something about this feels so right.

Look What You’ve Done

Event: Nets vs. Raptors, 2014 Eastern Conference First Round (Game 7)

    Date: May 4, 2014

While watching this game, I came to the conclusion that Drake must be allowed to do whatever the hell he wants in Canada. He was basically the hilariously useless sixth man for the Raptors in the critical final minutes of their Game 7 loss.

Girls Love Beyoncé

    Event: NBA All-Star Game 2014

    Date: Feb. 2, 2014

Even though it seems like he's attended every event at every All-Star game ever, clearly the magic still hasn't been lost for Drake.

The Ride

    Ronald Martinez/Getty Images

    Event: Kentucky vs. Wisconsin

    Date: April 5, 2014

Apparently Drake and Johnny Manziel attended a basketball game together in April—at least I hope they were together. Otherwise, that inappropriate and awkward touching would be...even more inappropriate and awkward.

Fireworks

    Event: 2013 NBA All-Star Game

    Date: Feb. 17, 2013

Here it looks like Drake is giving Kevin Durant some pointers ahead of the 2013 All-Star game and Kevin Durant is just politely smiling and nodding along. Drake's thinking, "Nailed it!" KD's thinking, "This guy again..."

Find Your Love

    Ronald Martinez/Getty Images

    Event: 2012 NBA All-Star Game

    Date: Feb. 26, 2012

Kevin Durant is like, "Seriously! This guy is everywhere." Drake is all, "I think he likes me!"

Doing It Wrong

14 of 31

    Ron Turenne/Getty Images

    Event: Nets vs. Raptors

    Date: Jan. 11, 2014

Normally, Drake is sitting with the likes of Kevin Hart or Lil' Wayne at basketball games, but apparently he'd be just as at home sitting courtside with your dad and grandpa.

The Motto

15 of 31

    Event: Kentucky Alumni Charity Game

    Date: Sept. 15, 2012

I'm not sure if you know this or not, but Drake actually dropped out of high school. (Audible gasp!) Well, apparently he's been so inspired by Kentucky coach John Calipari that he decided to go back and get his diploma. Normally, Calipari has the opposite effect.

Show Me a Good Time

Event: 2012 Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Game

    Date: Jan. 29, 2012

Drake takes a timeout from dishing out the gushing fanboy love to soak a little in for himself.

Successful

    Event: Mavericks vs. Heat

    Date: Jan. 2, 2013

This was a few months before Drake and LeBron James became BBFs—"best bros forever." Drake actually looks surprisingly unenthused about this meeting. Maybe he just had butterflies! #Swoon

Speaking of Drake and LeBron James becoming BBFs, check out their "I love you, man!" faces while out on the town celebrating the Heat's second consecutive championship last year.

Trophies or Club Paradise

    Event: Heat Championship Celebration

    Date: June 21, 2013

Because you probably wanted to see what led up to the previous photo, here's Drake rapping some raps onstage with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade at a Miami night club. Where's Chris Bosh!?

Over My Dead Body

Event: Rogers Masters presented by National Bank (Day 4)

    Date: Aug. 11, 2011

That's a surprisingly animated crowd for a tennis match. Of course, nobody is rooting harder for Serena Williams than Drake. Well, except for that guy in the gold chain behind him—but he just looks mad. He's probably mad at Drake for being such a goober.

5 AM in Toronto

21 of 31

    David Sandford/Getty Images

Event: NBA All-Star 2016 Press Conference

    Date: Sept. 30, 2013

Here is a picture of Drake hanging with Toronto Mayor Rob Ford at a press conference announcing that the 2016 All-Star Game will be hosted by the city of Toronto. Ford looks so ridiculously happy, you'd think Drake was a crack rock.

Best I Ever Had

22 of 31

    Event: ESPN’s First Take

    Date: Sept. 24, 2013

Just when you thought Drake’s ridiculous bandwagon ways couldn’t be anymore annoying, he goes ahead and combines them with Skip Bayless. Not a good strategy. Last fall, he took a seat at the First Take “debate” desk to “discuss his friendship” with Johnny Manziel, embarrassing both of them in the process.

Too Much

23 of 31

    Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images

Event: Bulls vs. Heat, 2013 Eastern Conference Semifinals (Game 3)

    Date: May 22, 2011

At first glance, it looks like the Heat’s Chris Bosh is finally getting a little Drake love. Look again and you’ll notice that Bosh is looking at Drake, and Drake is looking slightly to the right of him. But what could make Canada’s bad boy rapper giggle like a school girl?

We Made It

    Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images

Event: Bulls vs. Heat, Eastern Conference Semifinals (Game 3)

    Date: May 22, 2011

More like who! Drake looked right passed poor Chris Bosh, completely ignoring him in favor of a bro embrace with Dwyane Wade. Poor Boshie.

Light Up

25 of 31

    Event: Kentucky vs. Wisconsin

    Date: April 6, 2014

Drake says he feels so welcome at Kentucky because of how he's been embraced by the team and coach John Calipari. Considering this guy is the herpes of sports fans, embracing him was probably their only option. Here's Drake in the locker room after a game—he addresses the team before their coach does.

It seems like just a few he was sporting a VCU sweatshirt after they made it to the Final Four. Oh wait, it was. Awkward.

We’ll Be Fine

    YouTube

Event: Kentucky vs. UConn, 2014 NCAA Championship

    Date: April 7, 2014

As Kentucky's preeminent bandwagon celebrity superfan, Drake took their championship loss to UConn pretty hard. That was probably because the interwebs spent the next 24 hours trolling him. It wasn't all tears though—Drake decided to hang in the UConn locker room after the game instead.

Dreams Money Can Buy

27 of 31

    Event: Seahawks Practice

    Date: Dec. 13, 2013

Aside from his ongoing bromance with Johnny Manziel, Drake has never really been much of a football guy. Well, that is until the Seahawks showed the signs of being a Super Bowl contender in late 2013, which is exactly when they became Drake's favorite football team.

You gotta give him one thing—this guy knows when to jump on a bandwagon.

Wu-Tang Forever

    Jason Merritt/Getty Images

Event: 2010 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

    Date: Febr. 12, 2010

C'mon Drake! Can't you be cool just once?

Draft Day

29 of 31

    Event: "Draft Day" released

    Date: April 2, 2014

Recently Drake released a new song called “Draft Day,” which begins with the line: “Draft day, Johnny Manziel. Five years later how am I the man still.” Supposedly the rest of the song is about himself, but the whole thing feels like a loving tribute to Johnny Football. This “friendship” is starting to get a little Single White Female.

The Real Her

    USA TODAY Sports

    Event: 2014 NBA All-Star Game-Skills Contests

    Date: Feb. 15, 2014

Apparently, he cannot be cool. Nobody in the world takes NBA All-Star Weekend more seriously than Drake. Look at how intense that clap is! And this is just during the skills contests.

Shut It Down

31 of 31

    Jesse D. Garrabrant/Getty Images

Event: 2013 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest

    Date: Feb. 16, 2013

To say Drake made a spectacle of himself at the Dunk Contest last year is an understatement. To put that in perspective—this was one of his more chill photos. C'mon dude, it's the dunk contest.

Take it down a notch, bro. We get it...you love sports, but this is just getting embarrassing...for you.
