FARMINGDALE, NY - JUNE 22: David Duval smiles while holding his two year old son Brayden during the trophy presentation after the final round of the 109th U.S. Open on the Black Course at Bethpage State Park on June 22, 2009 in Farmingdale, New York. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, who was knocking on the door at the United States Open hosted this Sunday at Bethpage Black?

None other than David Duval.

While the main stories of the soaked and sloppy Championship revolved around Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, and the two long shots, including Mr. 882 in the World, Duval. Are you kidding me?

It was simply amazing to see the former world No. 1 back to hitting the ball well. In fact, he has known this for at least a while, as we have sat back and forgot about him. He recently told people that he wanted to work his way onto the Ryder Cup Team, but many people rolled their eyes at him.

But here is a man who has undergone metamorphosis. This is not the same lone wolf David Duval, but rather someone who seems to have had their life force shocked back to life. Family life and a back that doesn't kill him seems to have done the trick.

While many people have commented on his extra padding, I say what they're missing is how relaxed he is.

Now if only I could smile like that when I play golf.
