The New York Mets have placed OF Carlos Beltran on the DL today with a bone bruise in his right knee. GM Omar Minaya said that the bruise is getting bigger and bigger due to it being bone on bone.

Mets recall OF Fernando Martinez and pitchers Elmer Dessens, Pat Misch from Triple-A Buffalo. Ken Takahashi optioned to Buffalo. Mets IF Wilson Valdez was also designated for assignment.

According to Bart Hubbuch via his Twitter account, the New York Mets have released OF Wily Mo Pena and C Javier Valentin from their Triple-A club the Buffalo Bisons.

Pena would have given the Mets a decent bat coming off the bench if he was called up. One must wonder why these two moves were made, especially after two minor league deals the past 2 weeks to acquire depth.
