Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, though, the Reds will be playing in the Champions League in 2014/15. This ensures they will need to significantly add to their squad in the summer.
Several players will be linked with a move to Liverpool between now and then, and we'll keep tabs on them here.

Rodgers to Rescue Ben Arfa from His Newcastle Hell?
The Metro reports that Liverpool could be set to rescue French international Hatem Ben Arfa from his Newcastle United misery, with a £6million deal apparently in the offing.
Ben Arfa would be just the sort of player that the Reds need to flesh out their thin squad, and a row with Toon boss Alan Pardew has led to a likely exit from St James's Park in the summer.
Iago Aspas Wants to Move Back to Celta Vigo
InsideFutbol.com cite a report from the local Vigo newspaper Faro de Vigo claiming that Iago Aspas wants to cut short his Liverpool career and move back to former club Celta Vgo.
The Spaniard has had a hugely underwhelming campaign at Anfield, although his lack of chances in the first team has largely been because of the fine form of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
Aspas is reported to have said:
I'm not 20 years old anymore, I can't go on loan and explode.
I think the best would be to transfer to another club that I find the best fit for myself and the club.
Borussia Dortmund's Marcel Schmelzer 'Flattered' with Liverpool Interest
The Borussia Dortmund and Germany left-back Marcel Schmelzer has welcomed supposed interest in him from Liverpool, claiming that he's "looks forward" to hearing that clubs like the Reds are looking at him.
The 26-year-old has won two Bundesliga titles with Dortmund and has 16 Germany caps, and is reported by the Daily Mirror to have said:
Adam Lallana 'Wants Liverpool Move'
Neil Ashton of the Daily Mail is just one of the journalists who reported the story, with Brendan Rodgers apparently set to open the bidding at £15 million for a player whose fine season has seen him shortlisted for the PFA Player of the Year award and become a likely starter for England at the World Cup.
Another Week, Another Luis Suarez to Real Madrid Story
The PFA Player of the Year has scored 30 Premier League goals this season, and he is once again being viewed as a prime target for the La Liga giants.
Reds Eyeing Bayer Leverkusen Pair
Bayer Leverkusen duo Emre Can and Heung-Min Son have both seen themselves linked with moves to Liverpool by Paul Hetherington of the Daily Star, who claims that Brendan Rodgers has personally made checks on both players.
Can is a 20-year-old German-Turkish midfielder who has impressed in Leverkusen, despite failing to make the grade at Bayern Munich.
Son, 21, is a versatile attacker who has been tipped to make a big impact with South Korea at the World Cup.
Alexandre Lacazette Lined Up to Add to Striking Options?
Lyon’s in-form French international forward Alexandre Lacazette has been lined up by the Reds to add to their numerous attacking options next season, according to John Drayton of the Daily Mail, although a host of other clubs are also interested.
The 22-year-old has been rewarded for his fine club form with two senior international caps to date, and he would certainly add some firepower to a Reds side which is already so potent.
In the same report, it is also claimed that Stoke manager Mark Hughes will look to make Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi’s loan spell at the Potters a permanent transfer in the summer.
