Saturday marked Jordan Colbert's 17th birthday, and the 4-star Griffin (Georgia) safety celebrated by giving his verbal commitment to Auburn. Colbert tweeted news of his commitment Saturday afternoon.
"Not only did I decide to commit to the best school for me, but I get to celebrate my birthday, too," Colbert told Allie Davison of AuburnSports.com. "I'll always remember today."
The Auburn coaching staff likely won't forget this day any time soon, either. Colbert adds defensive firepower to the Tigers' 2015 recruiting class, which now features 12 verbal pledges.
Colbert is the eighth 4-star prospect in the class and seventh the Tigers have wooed from Georgia. He picked Auburn over an impressive list of other suitors, including SEC counterparts Alabama, Tennessee and in-state school Georgia, as well as defending national champion Florida State.
Auburn's 2015 stock picked up a big boost.
The Tigers' 2014 secondary is loaded—defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson has "five starters for four spots" in the coming campaign, Joel A. Erickson of AL.com writes.
Among that unit is Derrick Moncrief, a 2014 junior college signee to whom Colbert could serve as understudy next season.
With his size (6'2", 205 pounds) and athleticism, Colbert can step in to provide depth in an already deep secondary at the boundary safety position.
