Liverpool's fortunes this season have by some way come as a direct result of their turning luck in the transfer market, with a number of new acquisitions coming good in the hunt for the Premier League title.

That's something that Brendan Rodgers will be looking to prolong this summer, with expectations now upon the club's shoulders to not only extend their good form, but improve upon it.

With a make-or-break purchasing period ahead, we run through some of the bigger names to have been linked with an Anfield switch in recent days.

Alexis Sanchez, Barcelona

Under Gerardo Martino, Alexis Sanchez has been an improved man when given his chance, although the Chilean international has been caught up in an ongoing spell of rotation on the Barcelona wings.

According to talkSPORT, Sanchez is a wanted man in both Liverpool and Manchester United's camps, but it's Juventus who are the reported front-runners for his signature at the end of the season.

Pasquale Marino, who worked with Sanchez during his time at Udinese, is quoted by Italian outlet Tuttomercatweb (h/t's Miles Chambers) as saying Turin would be a good fit for the winger:

I think Alexis could fit very well into Conte's game plan. He can cover both the role of second striker or as a winger in a trident. His versatility makes Alexis a factor that can help him solve many coaching headaches. You need balance, but a trident of Tevez-Llorente-Alexis is feasible as Alexis and Tevez know how to work in the defensive side of things.

This past year Alexis has had several fitness problems but, this season, he has improved a lot despite little continuity. When playing at clubs like Barcelona, it is normal to have problems playing all of the time but his performances have always been positive. He's a great professional with a great work ethic and this will help him keep growing. show that, despite his jostling for game time with the likes of Neymar, Pedro and Cesc Fabregas, Sanchez has made a significant impact for La Blaugrana this year:

Liverpool's wide areas will be one area in need of renovation come the end of the campaign, with Victor Moses heading back to parent club Chelsea following his loan move, but this chase may be out of the Reds' reach.

Mateo Musacchio, Villarreal

Liverpool have heady competition in the fight to sign Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio this summer after it became apparent that Fiorentina are also interested in the Argentine.

Musacchio's agent Marcelo Lombilla is quoted by talkSPORT as saying of a possible summer departure:

We have heard of Fiorentina's interest, but the truth is that the club has not contacted me about Mateo. At this time we are not talking about him in connection with them or even any other club in the Premier League.

Musacchio has made 28 La Liga appearances this term, helping Villarreal to keep the best defensive record of any team outside Spain's top four so far.

The Mirror's David Jaca has noted Musacchio's improvements since last season:

The 23-year-old is out of contract in the summer and therefore an exit from his current club would seem to be likely, and his agent would have Europe's suitors believe that his options are numerous.

Cristian Tello, Barcelona

Barcelona may be ready to cash in on attacker Cristian Tello this summer if their £8 million valuation of the player is met.

That's according to talkSPORT, who also report that Milan may have already been in touch with Tello's agent, Josep Maria Orobitg.

It's a mixed bag of news for Liverpool, who will be glad to hear that La Blaugrana are more open to selling a player whom they were closely linked with in January. It was at this time that the player commented on a possible summer exit from the Camp Nou, per Metro's Hannah Duncan: "I will definitely stay at Barcelona until June, then we will see in the summer."

Tello is one of the more impressive La Masia graduates to have come through Barca's ranks in recent years, and even though Liverpool's bar will have been raised in squad requirements this season, they may be able to offer him a more promising first-team venture at Anfield.
