One matchday remains before the 18 Liga MX clubs are dwindled to eight and the Clausura Liguilla begins.
And as we enter a decisive Week 17, some of the final playoff tournament spots are contended for by a wide flock of clubs. Fourth and seventh place were all at 24 total points entering Matchday 24 with a number of clubs right behind.
Things are awfully tight for those top eight playoff spots and anything could happen in this final week as we inch closer toward the Clausura Liguilla.
Let's break down the updated Liga MX table and all of the Week 17 results.
A duo of matches on Friday had huge implications in terms of figuring out the middle of the table, and it began with a thriller.
Pachuca looked like they were going to get run out of Queretaro as the hosts took a commanding 3-0 lead over the opponents in the 66th minute. But it was then that Pachuca struck.
Led by a brace from both Enrique Esqueda and Abraham Carreno, Pachuca rattled off four goals in the final 15 minutes of the match and pulled out an inspiring, 4-3 victory thanks to Carreno's 90th-minute winner.
ESPN's Tom Marshall summed it up:
Four goals in the final 15 minutes from Pachuca. Los Tuzos on brink of playoffs. Queretaro out of the reckoning.— Tom Marshall (@mexicoworldcup) April 26, 2014
The loss proved huge for Queretaro as it knocked them out of Clausura Liguilla contention. Notching three points in the victory would have tied them with the mass of clubs at 24 points.
Meanwhile, Pachuca got to 24 points with the victory and their fate will be decided when Matchday 17 concludes.
The seventh win of the season for Pachuca cold not have come at a better time. They will now have momentum heading into the postseason—if they can get their spot locked up by the end of the weekend.
The middle of the table remains largely the same after Saturday. The biggest result of the day was Atlas' 2-1 loss to Tigres. As a result, Atlas dropped to 11th in the table with no chance of advancing to the Liguilla. A win could've meant they climbed to seventh or even sixth in the table.
Instead, the Clausura ended in bitter disappointment.
The other three results were largely by the numbers.
Cruz Azul locked themselves into the top spot with a 2-1 win over Pumas. They're five points clear of second-place Toluca, who have yet to play on Matchday 17.
Santos' 1-1 draw with Veracruz has secured them with at least the fifth spot. Whether Santos are fourth or fifth depends on America's fixture with Toluca on Sunday.
There wasn't anything on the line between Chiapas and Atlante. Despite a 5-2 win, Chiapas are ninth in the table with no hope of cracking the top eight, while Atlante sunk to 16th.
