Why I Love This Offseason...Warts and All

Has anyone else in the Bronco Nation felt the bottom of their stomach fall this offseason? You know, that mix of disgust and first-day-of-school-like jitters.

I can say that the first time for me was when I heard Shanahan got canned, and secretly was damning my father for being right again (damn you Mike..you called that one about six months ago). Initially I was saying, "No friggin way!"

But I immediately was salivating at the chance for us to get a fresh start. I thought that Shanny was and still is a great coach, but for either of us, he had to go. I felt the chances were much higher for him and the Broncos to see another Super Bowl if he left.

I think the term is bittersweet.

Then the Cutler saga ensued and once again the Broncos were headlining Sportscenter. I had mixed feelings on boy wonder. Here are some facts (IMO): He did indeed have a stronger arm than Elway (but that still doesn't mean he is a better QB), he was a Draft Day coup d'etat when one considers who was taken before him, and he certainly was better than anything we have seen since Elway.

However, doubt had been knocking on the door throughout the season. His decision making was horrible. The thing that bothered me worse than throwing a pick into triple-coverage was his Mr. Magoo on-field vision in regard to receivers other than Brandon Marshall.

But, the picks were the nails in the coffin. The Buffalo game was lost on the shoulders of Cutler's INT and was quite typical in respect to the entire season.

Now, we're on to the tale of Brandon Marshall. He is, to put it mildly, an All-Universe WR with the emotional maturity of the kids he put on a camp for. Actually, that's not fair to the kids who act grown-up.

We, the fans, remind me of an alcoholic's spouse who swears he will never do it again. We say, "Oh he has really changed this time." He promises to be a good boy and only will see the back of a squad car on special occasions.

Once again, my beloved Denver Broncos are on every sports report in the country and stealing precious time away from baseball on Sportcenter....YAY!!!

So, I finally have got to why I love this offseason, warts and all. Every February, I go into a talespin of withdrawal like a heroin junkie because no one is talking the NFL or Broncos in any form of media.

I scan the blogs to just get a whiff of football, even if the posts are ill-informed and sophomoric. Well this season, whether I like the moves the Broncos made or not, they have received more coverage than ever.

The controversial moves they have made make me even more excited than ever. I am not going to elaborate in this piece on specific changes, but I have to ask my Broncos-loving brethren, are you on the edge of your seat as well?
