This was the Americans' best international performance in a major tournament since their surprising run in the 2002 World Cup. The United States beat Egypt 3-0 on goals by Charlie Davies in the 21st minute, Michael Bradley in the 63rd minute, and Clint Dempsey in the 71st minute.
And, with the Brazilians beating Italy 3-0 on a two goal performance by Luis Fabiano and an own goal by Italian Andrea Dossena, the United States have now advanced to the semifinals based on goal differential, and will face Spain on Wednesday June 24 to determine if they will go to the final.
The United States had a really disappointing tournament as they lost to Italy 3-1 in the opener and 3-0 to Brazil in their second game, but with their win over Egypt, the Americans have shocked many as they will now advance to the semifinals.
