It was another action-packed week for Americans playing abroad, highlighted by a brace from Rapid Vienna forward Terrence Boyd, a goal from Nantes midfielder Alejandro Bedoya and a new contract for Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard.

Jozy Altidore was also back in the news after playing a decisive role in Sunderland's win over Chelsea, and it was learned that John Anthony Brooks found the bench for a peculiar reason.

There's also an injury update on Timmy Chandler, and Tim Ream had another standout performance.

Read about all that and much more in this week's edition of the Americans Abroad Wrap.

The English Premier League Boys

Tim Howard made three saves in Everton's 2-0 win over Manchester United. He also signed a new contract with Everton this week that will keep them at the club through 2018.

Jozy Altidore and Sunderland pulled off a massive week, earning a point against Manchester City before defeating Chelsea 2-1 on the weekend. Altidore didn't play a part in the tie against City, but did draw the decisive penalty in the win against Chelsea. Sunderland are still at the bottom of the table, but are now only two points from safety.

Geoff Cameron and Stoke tied Cardiff 1-1 with Cameron playing his customary 90 minutes at right-back. Brek Shea didn't make the squad for Stoke.

Brad Guzan and Aston Villa tied Southampton 0-0. Guzan was the highest-rated player for Villa.

Ze Germans

John Anthony Brooks was involved in one of the more bizarre incidents of the week after it was reported that he had been benched last weekend due to a large back tattoo that kept him out of training. Nonetheless, he returned to action this week in Hertha Berlin's 0-0 draw with Augsburg.

Timmy Chandler is still out injured, but reports this week say he is set to return to training. He should be back in time to help Nurnberg in their final three games this year as they look to avoid relegation.

Fabian Johnson and Hoffenheim lost to Werder Bremen 3-1 with Johnson playing 90 minutes at right-back. Joe Gyau made the bench for Hoffenheim, but did not play.

Julian Green is still out injured.

In Bundesliga 2, Bobby Wood played the second half of 1860 Munich's 2-1 win over Bielefeld.

Alfredo Morales played 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw with Aalen.

In the English Championship

Jonathan Spector played 90 minutes at right-back in Birmingham's 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, with reporting that it was Spector's error that led to Forest's goal. Will Packwood made the bench for Birmingham, but did not play; Eric Lichaj is still out injured for Forest.

Tim Ream and Charlton tied 0-0 with Ream playing 90 minutes at left-back and being named's Man of the Match. Stuart Holden is still out injured.

Danny Williams and Reading lost 3-0 to Wigan with Williams playing 55 minutes.

Duane Holmes and Huddersfield tied Brighton 1-1. Holmes made the bench, but did not play.

Oguchi Onyewu and Sheffield Wednesday beat Bournemouth 4-2 with Onyewu going the distance.
