Kevin Davies Not Welcome At Ewood Park

National press reports have today linked BRFC to oaf Kevin Davies.

This rumor has shocked some but others don't find it hard to believe.
It is well known that the BRFC manager is an admirer of Davies, saving his career after a disastrous few years.
What is shocking is the price being quoted. £5 million for a player who cost a wasted £7.5 million 11 years ago? That seems far too high and would be a waste of the funds acquired from the sale of Roque Santa Cruz.
There isn't a massive amount to worry about at the moment. It is claimed that any bid will be rejected and that BRFC are yet to make an official approach.
There is of course the fact that Davies is a much better, confident player than the one who "graced" Ewood in 1998-99.
Davies was shattered to the extent that even three years after leaving BRFC his confidence was at an all time low.
When he appeared at Ewood for Southampton in 2002 there was a moment when he went one on one with Brad Friedel. He wasted the opportunity so badly that it was more like a defensive pass back.
Since then he has proven his ability and some might say repaired his reputation.
So would I be prepared to forgive Kevin Davies?
Not a chance in hell.
Davies was one of the main catalysts in the relegation season of 98-99. His awful form yielding a pathetic return of two goals.
The day before BRFC's crucial match against Manchester United (needing a win to maintain any chance of survival) he was spotted drinking in a nightclub.
Dancing on BRFC's grave.
When he first returned Davies arrogantly stated that he had nothing to prove.
Considering what he had shown up to that point, nothing to prove seemed accurate. BRFC fans already knew he had no ability or talent. Or so we all thought until he was rejuvenated and unrecognisable from the oaf of 98-99.
Davies blamed everyone but himself for his failure at Ewood referring to it as the most miserable time of his career.
The pressure was on him from the start with comparisons to Alan Shearer.
That's no excuse for being lazy, overweight, and uncommitted.
So how will BRFC fans react if the club signed Davies? Of course it's possible that Davies is still bitter (no justification for that if he is) and wouldn't want to join.
There would be an initial outcry and probably threats to boycott. The same as there was when Allardyce was first linked to the club last summer. As I stated in a recent article Rovers fans have been highly hypocritical in changing their view of Allardyce.
As usual though Rovers fans would ultimately prove to be the soft touch they are. The board would probably bring up the cheap season tickets even though it wouldn't excuse a damn thing.
Personally I wouldn't boycott but I sure as hell wouldn't welcome him either. I didn't want Allardyce in the summer or in December but at no stage did I threaten to boycott. If I had then I would have stayed true to my word unlike the majority of BRFC supporters.
If Davies enters Ewood it should only be a matter of time until he's hounded out and reduced to the pathetic wreck he used to be.
