The Detroit Red Wings needed to win one game in Boston to get on track for an upset in their first-round series with the Bruins, and they got that victory in the first game.
Pavel Datsyuk scored the only goal in a 1-0 Detroit victory when he wristed a shot past Boston goalie Tuukka Rask late in the third period. The Red Wings outskated Boston through much of the game, but the Bruins started to assert themselves late in the third period.
However, Johan Franzen led a Detroit counterattack and he got the puck to Datsyuk, who scored the game winner.
