The Detroit Tigers have a major league problem with their Right Fielder Magglio Ordoñez. He's in a slump, everyone has a slumps, but not this kind. Lets pull out some stats:
He has as of right now a batting average of .273. his worst average in his entire career. Through 216 at bats Mag's 2 home runs, 59 hits, 22 RBI's. Coach Jim Leland benched Mags this Thursday for an indefinite amount of time.
Now on that note some people will just think: "Oh, the Skipper just wants him to relax get his mind in the game." Just like Mike Babcock did with Red wings Goaltender Chris Osgood. Right? Wrong.
I think there is something else behind. His contract. There is a nice little twist in that contract of his. If he makes 135 starts or 540 plate appearances in 2009 he gets $18 million in 2010. That's more than Albert Pujols. Who I personally would love to have playing for the Tigers.
Then there his horrid defence. Maybe one of the worse Rf in the MLB to me. This being a major problem. The Tigers with their now slumping defence could be a little better with out him.
But you almost feel a sense of loyalty to him. The main reason being that Homerun in the 2006 playoffs.(Shown in Picture)
Loyalty has a big part in Detroit sports. Look at the Lions. They are by far the worst team ever. Have they been loyal to anyone lately? No. Except for Matt Millen and as you've probably heard he didn't do such a great job. Then you have the Red wings. They've been loyal to many of their players and look at the pay off.
What I'm getting to is, there's two sides to this. We either see how it plays out and hopefully he comes back roaring, or we throw him under the bus and walk away like nothing happened.
As for me, I think it's time we find a bus.
