The Columbus Blue Jackets came out with a burst of youthful energy, but their hard-hitting play wasn't enough to get past the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first game of their best-of-seven Stanley Cup Playoff series.
Columbus tallied its first-ever lead in the playoffs with Jack Johnson's first-period goal, then got out to a 3-1 advantage early in the second period before the methodical Penguins went to work, tying the game before the second period was out. Brandon Sutter potted the winner as Pittsburgh shut down Columbus in the third.
The Jackets have yet to win a playoff game in their franchise history. They'll try again in Game 2 on Saturday in Pittsburgh.
Final Score: Pittsburgh Penguins 4 - Columbus Blue Jackets 3, Pittsburgh Leads Series 1-0
