Jacques Kallis has scarcely played cricket since his retirement from the South Africa Test team, but the 38-year-old returned to the Indian Premier League with a scintillating 72 in the curtain-raiser between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians.
Kallis started slowly for the Knight Riders but then burst into life with three sixes in a 46-ball innings, propelling his team to 163-5 in their 20 overs.
The highlights were his maximums, full of power and authority.
Twice he dispatched India spinner Pragyan Ojha for six:
And to finish, he launched Zaheer Khan over midwicket for good measure.
Kallis has developed into a much more explosive player in the shortest format over recent times and could be one of the key players at this year's tournament.
