New World Heavyweight Champion Eric Young
In one of the most shocking events in TNA history, longtime veteran Eric Young captured the hearts and minds of Impact Wrestling fans when he defeated Magnus cleanly to capture the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
Young won a 10-man gauntlet match earlier in the night to earn the No. 1 contendership. Then, despite having a severely injured arm, he requested his title shot later that same night. The underdog overcame the odds to capture the belt to close the show.
Question on Everybody’s Mind: Will EY Lose the Title at Sacrifice?
As entertaining as the victory was for Young, there is a feeling of uncertainty about where this angle is heading.
When Chris Sabin won the world title, the company’s leash for the champion was short, and he dropped the title just a few weeks later.
With Young likely going up against Magnus at Sacrifice, there is an uneasy feeling that the title could change hands once again. If TNA had the faith to give Young the championship in the first place, the hope is that he will get a chance to prove his worth before the legs are cut out from underneath his run.
Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Experimental Title Reigns
There is no doubt that TNA took a huge gamble by putting the title on Young. He has never been a main event star and has never been put in this position, so the chance of failure is through the roof. On the other hand, the company is getting steady television ratings, so why not try something off the board?
Young has been the ideal company man for over a decade, and this is his chance to take the ball and run with it. The surprise of a lifetime midcard talent winning the world title out of nowhere has people talking, but how Young follows it up will determine how long he holds the belt.
Willow, The Wolves and More Sacrifice Build
Many fans chastised Jeff Hardy and TNA for changing to his Willow alter ego, but this repackaging has made fans interested once again. While there is no question that it’s unorthodox, fans complained about the same Hardy character for years.
Instead of staying a bland face, like Sheamus in the WWE, Hardy reinvented himself.
Like it or not, Hardy’s shift to Willow has added an edge in the ring, and it has become one of the portions of Impact Wrestling fans can’t miss. Add the fact that he will be taking on both ECIII and Rockstar Spud on Thursday, and Willow has the chance to steal the show again.
Question on Everybody’s Mind: Will The Wolves Finally Reclaim the Titles?
With the tag team division struggling in the WWE, fans of the lost art of tag team wrestling have found their saving grace in The Wolves. Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards are two of the most talented in-ring workers in the business, and together they form one of the most exciting tag teams in the sport.
The Wolves will likely get another title shot this week after The BroMans continued to do everything possible to protect the belts, but Thursday’s bout will also likely end with a dirty finish. This feud has all the earmarks of culminating at the PPV, and fans should expect the titles around the waists of The Wolves at Sacrifice.
Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Solid Midcard Storylines
Wrestling fans want to be entertained, and Impact Wrestling is providing fans with intriguing storylines all through the card—not just the main event. With Bobby Roode still going to battle with Bully Ray and Gunner still having issues with James Storm, there are several intriguing storylines going on at one time.
Add the Knockouts Division drama with the return of The Beautiful People, the best-of-three series for the X Division Championship and the always-evolving angle between MVP and Dixie Carter, and there is never a dull moment in TNA Impact Wrestling.
