Team USA played its only exhibition game Sunday night, and they beat Sweden 5-1 in Portland, Maine, as the two teams prepare for the 2008 IIHF World Championships, which start next week.
Calder Trophy finalist Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks had a goal and an assist for the Americans, and Patrick Mueller of the Phoenix Coyotes had two goals and one assist in the victory.
Nathan Gerbe, fresh off helping Boston College to a national championship, continued his stellar play, adding a goal and an assist for Team USA.
Craig Anderson got the start in net and stopped all 14 shots he faced in the first 32:22 of the game. Robert Esche backed him up and allowed one goal on seven shots.
The Americans out shot the Swedes 31-21 in the game, and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
Team USA will continue practice in Maine before heading to Halifax, Nova Scotia for their first game against Latvia on May 2.
