The April 14 WWE Raw will salute the The Ultimate Warrior and charge towards Extreme Rules.
After delivering a memorable, thrilling show the night after WrestleMania 30, WWE now heads to the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in Birmingham, Ala., to continue its momentum. The Shield, Daniel Bryan, John Cena and Bray Wyatt will all share the spotlight.
WWE announced that Monday's Raw would be a tribute show to The Ultimate Warrior. That likely means clips of Warrior in action and perhaps someone shaking the ropes in his honor.
Backstage reports, Twitter and the five-point preview on WWE.com by James Wortman provide insight into what else to expect on Monday's Raw.
News, Potential Spoilers
Warrior's former tag team partner from his Universal Wrestling Federation days has been the subject of rumors, speculation and anticipation for months. The WCW and TNA star is closer to officially heading to WWE now than he has been throughout that whole process.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the deal is done in principle and that "it's just a matter of the final contract being signed."
If that is the case, we could see Sting appear on Raw, at least in the form of a vignette. With as many surprises and debuts as last Monday's episode featured, though, WWE may want to space out having "The Icon" step out from behind the curtain.
A far safer bet is that WWE sets up some of the matches on the Extreme Rules card. Cena battling Wyatt appears to be a lock.
The IZOD Center's website is listing Wyatt vs. Cena in an "Extreme Match" at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view. They most likely mean an Extreme Rules match, something Wyatt hinted at on SmackDown when he expressed the need to go new extremes.
That battle could be announced on Monday's Raw with the pay-per-view now three weeks away.
Vickie Guerrero and Darren Young likely won't play much of a part in that event but look to be available on Monday night. Both dismissed recent Internet rumors.
Guerrero addressed rumors of her leaving the company via Twitter.
As for Young, F4WOnline (via Mike Killam of Wrestle Zone) reported on Sunday that he "may have sprained his ankle or suffered some sort of knee injury this weekend at a WWE Live event in Hidalgo, TX."
On Twitter, he claimed to be healthy.
Expect Monday's Raw to highlight Rob Van Dam, Cesaro and Paige's journeys.
Van Dam returned to WWE last Monday. He has since racked up two wins against Damien Sandow. As of yet, he has no rival and no storyline.
With Extreme Rules nearing, count on that changing. WWE has to use Van Dam's star power at the event and isn't likely to just throw him on the card at the last minute.
Hints on where he is headed next are coming.
The same is true for Cesaro, although his direction is more clear. Last week, he and former tag team partner Jack Swagger collided. Swagger destroyed Cesaro's Battle Royal trophy. Cesaro earned a count-out victory later that night.
Their feud is sure to continue, likely leading to a match at Extreme Rules. The weapons that these two men use against each other will foreshadow what kind of bout they will have. Should they destroy tables in a brawl, count on a Tables match, for example.
Monday's Raw will also be Paige's night.
As Wortman writes, "Paige’s resolve will continue to be put to the test as an entire division — including a bitter and vengeful AJ — will be looking to wrest her newly-won championship from her grasp."
Storylines Continued, Questions Answered
Two of the most prominent narratives will feature a man battling a monster and a brewing stable-versus-stable feud.
Wortman writes, "In light of the defiance shown by both The Shield and the just-married Champion of Champions, how will the COO punish these King of Kings contrarians?"
Fans will be waiting to see if Evolution reforms, if WWE has a War Games match planned for these two groups and just how Bryan fits into the story. Will he be defending his championship at Extreme Rules or be involved in a larger-scale battle?
Those questions will at least be partially answered by the end of Monday's Raw.
As for Cena and Wyatt, their next clash appears to be imminent, but there is a question about how that will affect Cena. WWE continues to tease that a darker, more angry version of Cena will emerge thanks to Wyatt prying it out of him.
Wortman asks, "Can the Cenation leader somehow combat the eerie allure of The Wyatt Family?"
That is not something Monday's Raw will answer, but count on more hints of what's to come at Extreme Rules and beyond. There appears to be an involved story unfolding between this hero and his dark foe.
The Birmingham fans are set to see the next chapter first-hand.
