UPDATE: April 14, 11:35 a.m. ET
Bubba Watson did not wear his new green jacket at Waffle House. @Flizz spotted pics taken from another angle in the restaurant. It would appear the golfer ate his hash browns in the same white shirt he wore at the tournament.
Smart move by Bubba, but my dreams are shattered. Oh well.
---End of Update---
Hash browns are for closers. Bubba Watson became a closer on Sunday.
After a career of struggling to win from the front, the 35-year-old pro sealed the deal on his second green jacket. Watson weathered an early rough patch, fended off 20-year-old challenger Jordan Spieth and shot a tournament-winning, three-under 69 on his final round at Augusta National.
Watson held his two-year-old son Caleb and high-fived fans as he left the course, but the celebration was far from over.
Six hours after Adam Scott draped the green jacket over his shoulders, Watson tucked into a plate of crispy potato strings at a Waffle House in the Augusta area.
Yes, like a true southerner, the man from Bagdad, Fla., wanted some hash browns for a late-night/early-morning meal. Watson tweeted a picture of his late-night victory meal with his wife, Angie. It’s probably safe to say no one in this picture could’ve been happier.
The image raises many questions, the most important of which being: Did Watson wear the green jacket into Waffle House?
We’ll never know from this angle, but I believe the nation would be better off assuming he did. There are precedents for such things. Phil Mickelson showed up at the Krispy Kreme drive-thru in his green jacket in 2010.
It’s difficult to believe Watson would peel off his jacket on Sunday night, even for fourth meal. Then again, ketchup and hash browns are magnetically attracted to clothing. They will fly off the plate and land on anything you can’t afford to soil.
I’d wager Bubba wore it to the restaurant and took it off once inside. You don’t want to be the Masters champ walking into an Augusta dry cleaner 12 hours after winning.
Don't be surprised if Bubba feasts again soon. Golf's southern-fried champion is rolling, and he'll be extremely dangerous if his big driver continue to find the fairway.
All Waffle Houses in the Pinehurst, North Carolina area should keep a table open when Bubba rolls into town for the U.S. Open this July.
Just remember: Bubba is a closer. He gets hash browns.
