Mike Conley scored 24 points, Marc Gasol added 18 points and 15 rebounds and the Memphis Grizzlies pulled away in the second half to top the Los Angeles Lakers, 102-90, Sunday night at the Staples Center, earning a huge win in their quest to secure a playoff spot.
The Grizzlies are now a full game up on the Phoenix Suns for the Western Conference's No. 8 seed, and Memphis owns the tiebreaker.
The Lakers put a scare into the Grizzlies early, though. Los Angeles led 27-23 after one quarter of play, and at halftime, Memphis was only up 53-52.
However, a 17-0 Grizzlies run between the third and fourth periods put the game away, and we saw Memphis leading by as much as 22 over the final 12 minutes.
The Grizzlies outrebounded the Lakers 52-32, grabbing 16 offensive boards.
Memphis also held LA to 43.8 percent shooting, forcing it to miss 16 straight shots in the midst of the 17-0 run.
Jodie Meeks led the Lakers with 20 points, and Wesley Johnson chipped in 15 points and 15 rebounds.
The Grizzlies have two games remaining. They play the Suns in Phoenix on Monday night and then come back home for the season finale to take on the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday.
