It is widely believed Kevin Carter will be a Detroit Lion this summer. The veteran DE comes it over 300 pounds and is more of a first, second, and obvious running situation guy. He can get to the quarterback but not well enough to leave in when you have Cliff Avril.

Carter is bigger than all but Grady Jackson and Sammie Lee Hill on the defensive front. His lack of speed and competition at the position may force him inside if he comes to Detroit. Jared Devries, Ikaika-Alama Francis, and DeWayne White are all likely to play on rushing downs.

The only other scenario is bringing White off the bench on passing downs. Moving Carter inside, where more help is needed, seems more likely.

Detroit may be heavily reliant on rookie’s John Gill and Sammie Lee Hill to produce now if they want to be strong up the middle.

With his increased weight, Alama-Francis has mentioned playing inside some in practice. I hope that the potential to play inside is not a deterrent to Carter. Detroit needs all the help it can get along the front line.
