It’s time to look at the potential two-start options for the upcoming fantasy week. If I have someone rated as a three, four or five-star option, they are someone I would definitely use.
A two-star option is someone who is borderline, but I’d strongly lean against it unless I have no other options. The one-star options are an absolutely not scenario.
So, with that said, let’s take a look at the players available to you this week:
Five-Star Options:

Scheduling Notes:
- Who will Boston’s two-start pitcher be? Will they even have a two-start guy or will they move to a six-man rotation with the return of John Smoltz? It could be Brad Penny, if he isn’t traded, but this is one situation that is completely up in the air.
Thoughts:
- Young pitchers are inconsistent. Young pitchers are inconsistent. Young pitchers are inconsistent. I figure if I say it enough, maybe I’ll drill it home. That said, Trevor Cahill has been pretty solid recently and deserves being used.
In his last six starts his WHIP is 1.13, so the 1.40 overall is a bit deceiving. He also has matchups that would appear favorable against the Giants and Rockies. I know there is reason to be skeptical, but I’d take my chances. - With that said, I can’t make Tommy Hanson a three-star option, no matter how much I’d like to. First of all, his control has been erratic. Secondly, he gets the Red Sox and Yankees. I don’t care who you are, those match-ups would knock you down a peg.
- When it comes to David Price, I just don’t know what to say. He finally got the control in line, walking no one after handing out 18 free passes over his first 19 innings, but of course he got shelled for five earned runs over seven innings to suffer his first loss of the season.
The Phillies are a tough matchup, but with Raul Ibanez on the DL it is not as daunting. The Marlins offer him an opportunity to rack up the Ks. Honestly, I would use him, but there are enough questions to make you at least think about it.
