The Colorado Rockies are back and playing that annual game known as “Will it be enough?”
The team will once again fight a Coors Field that seems to battle their rotation as much as the opposition’s as well as an NL West that might be among the toughest divisions in all of baseball.
MLB Contributor Gabe Zaldivar attempts to answer whether the Rockies really do have enough to stave off a fourth losing season and get this team back to the postseason for the first time since 2008.
Of course, it will take some luck on the mound, which is precisely how every year seems to start. Jhoulys Chacin had a great year in 2013, but he is shelved with a shoulder injury at the moment, so it’s up to the other cast of characters to pick up the slack.
And speaking of supporting cast, aside from a stellar heart of the order, those surrounding the meat of the offense need to show off some power as well. Wilin Rosario has enough to be a star for the team and Justin Morneau has enough juice left to drive in pivotal runs for 2014.
If all goes perfectly, these Rockies can certainly make some noise in a division filled with talent.
