Surely, Roger Clemens being called a scumbag is not news; instead, it's more common knowledge.

The man once known as "the Rocket", was blasted early this morning with allegations that he was involved in a decade-long affair with little-known country singer, Mindy McCready.

Does this make Roger a "scumbag"?  Sure.  But there's more...

When Roger began the affair with Ms. McCready he was 28 and she was just 15 years old!  Never one to screw-up at the level of normal human beings, Clemens has really gotten himself in a steaming heap this time.

The only things Americans seem to enjoy watching more than steroids hearings and one-time stars being publicly humiliated are the Dateline NBC specials, "To Catch a Predator" about pedophiles getting caught in the act by Chris Hansen.

If the allegations are true, public conversations will turn from "Should he be in Cooperstown" to "Let him be tricked out in prison for the rest of his life".

Now, I don't claim to know for a fact whether or not Clemens is guilty of pedophilia, but the NY Daily News has claimed it has sources to back up this allegation.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised, but even scumbags like Roger Clemens deserve the right to defend themselves against attacks from less-than reputable "newspapers".  This is the reason that I titled this column "Roger Clemens is a Scumbag" and not "Roger Clemens is a Child Rapist".

Regardless: I think we can all agree that, child rapist or not, Roger Clemens is—and always will be—a scumbag.

  1. Ugly image in that juvenile headline.

    1. Haha thanks for the read "r". I appreciate the feedback, positive or negative, and look forward to reading any articles and mature headlines you might have to offer to Bleacher Report.

    2. I don't believe what Clemens did is any worse than any other legendary figure in Baseball. Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle....all boozers and womanizers. All revered legends.

    3. Two months ago I wanted to believe him, so I did. Now, I think he's sleezy and it is possible he has done some of the things they are saying. We don't know that they had a sexual relationship while she was still a minor, and he IS innocent til proven guilty. But it ain't lookin' good for the Rocket!

  2. Yes, yes, we all "know" that Roger is a liar. But we also know that bimbo drug addict z-list celebrities will say/do anything to try to get back up onto the c-list. I don't know if she can sing, but she knows how to get publicity when she needs it. If you want to weigh in on his guilt/innocence, vote in this poll: http://www.suchacheater.com/roger-clemens-cheated-with-mindy-mccready/196/

  3. Clemens admitted to having known this woman. There's no evidence saying it was a sexual relationship. This was confirmed by Clemens' lawyer. I'll admit that it doesn't look good for him as far as the steroids issue is concerned but, the man was married with 2 children at the time of this allegation.

  4. I do not like Clemens but damn everyone is innocent until PROVEN guilty

    1. exactly this is dirty lawyering at its best can we wait until i don't some shred of proof comes to light before we label him, please remember that "newspaper" (i use that compound word lightly these days) circulation numbers are always down so if say an "anonymous source" were to offer up completely unsubstantiated reports they'll get printed. The A-Rod story from last year comes to mind, about his wife's T-Shirt, and a family of four leaving the game because of it.

Everyone including Miss McCready is denying this, this is just Brian's Lawyers trying to get this case dropped. BTW very classy article Andrew way to shock jock it for views.

    2. replace don't with get i had i different sentence in front of don't but i took it out (at least i thought) to decrease the trollish nature of the comment.

    3. That "newspaper" better hope that their story is accurate or Clemens could own their asses by the end of the week. They also broke the story that Clemens did steroids. If they were completely wrong twice, Clemens will not hold back in suing every man woman and child that had anything to do with those stories.

  5. Was Barry innocent until proven guilty? Definitely not. Clemens has solidified the belief in people's minds that he used steroids because of his incessant lying about trivial matters (Canseco's party). His entire legal strategy wreaked of scum (the stench could have been his lawyer Rusty, though). His press conferences were scripted without a doubt and I never saw Roger say anything his lawyer didn't tell him to. Now, we have this allegation. Clemens' career and reputation are tarnished beyond repair. I myself believe him to be a scumbag and a liar.

    1. "Was Barry innocent until proven guilty? Definitely not."

I thinks Bonds was badly treated by the media but an accusation of steroid use and one of stat rape hardly carry the same weight.

    2. yes he was proven guilty, his leaked grand jury testimony shows he admitted to "possibly" using steroids, that his trainers game some "stuff" that they told him was "flaxseed oil" he confessed without the confessing part. His case is nothing like Rogers.

    3. My point wasn't that he wasn't proven guilty. I know that he was. My point is that, before he was proven guilty, a lot of people treated it as a forgone conclusion that he had used steroids. While that assumption turned out to be true, it doesn't change the fact that he wasn't "innocent until proven guilty."

  6. at least he does not pine after musclely manly types like A ROD.
But if the definition of scumbag is Child Rapist, Steroid cheat and plain old jackass, then yes Clemens is by definition a scumbag.

some where Suzyn Waldman is crying

    2. Sorry that post was Ken above.

  7. everyone should be considered Innocent til proven guilty I think Bonds did roids but they have to PROVE it. Everyone is jumping all over this case calling clemens a pedophile damn anyone remember the DUKE case.lets let the facts come out

  8. we need to slow down before we put roger in jail and throw away the key. it said that he met her when she was 15, it never said they started having an affair at that point.

  9. I think that it's weird that they met in a bar--SHE WAS 15!!! Aspiring singer or not, it's never a good idea to let a teenage girl hangout with grown men drinking!!

  10. I've met and hung out with Roger (shooting the breeze and whatnot) and he seems like a genuinely good guy. I don't know if I believe that he had an affair with her, especially with no relevant facts involved.

    1. Wow, Biff! You're practically a politician twisting my words around to make them sound differently!

I never said I know the guy like he's a member of my family but you get gut feelings from talking to people and I simply stated mine. Did I preach it like the gospel? No, not one bit. So you can take your smarky sarcasm and stick it, pal.

    2. Hitler gave a lot of people in Germany a good "gut feeling" too...he turned out not to be such a good guy. Roger has always been charismatic, that's why people gave him the benefit of the doubt for so long. I hardly think he deserves it anymore after all we've seen from him the past few years.

  11. This just in...Un-Named sources say that Mindy Met Mork On Mars! Nanu, Nanu! Obviously, you buy everyhting you read. So I though if i typed that, you might buy it too. Emery's tactic is to further defame, decreasing the monetary value of ROGER THE ROCKET CLEMENS, and FUTUTRE YANKEE HALL OF FAMER, thus lessening the financial responsibility McNamee WILL have to pay. Hello! Does Emery really think that this startegy is responsible and prudent??
By the way, I grew up in Syracuse, still have family there too. 8 brothers and siters from the Wild West Side, aka near Tip Hill. Closer to your school, OCC. I say Go Rocket! and GO IRISH!

  12. **Breaking News*** un-named sources say Mindy is a coke 'ho and searching Mars for her long lost Mork! I am from Syracuse, the Wild West, down from you place of work, OCC! Right across the street from B. County Club. Stick to hanging with kids, kid!

  13. ***"It's pretty simple, the way I look at it. I became a Hall of Famer here (in New York), with my numbers here and what I've done here, and hopefully three-hundred will be another big part of that. When (former Red Sox general manager Dan) Duquette said that I was done, if I'd have taken his advice and went home, I wouldn't have been a Hall of Famer. So it's a no-brainer. It's definitely pretty easy. Reggie (Jackson) spent five years here, and this will be five for me." Source:The New York Times (April 2003)*** When McNamee loses, he will have to pay a full dividend, a numeric value; based on the extent of his defamation! AND YES, Yankee Hall of Famer, as Rocket puts it himself in the NY Times. What, did you think he would go in a Red Sock!

  14. Honestly, who cares? This isn't sports news! It's tabloid material! I am sick of hearing about the personal lives of athletes. That is what it is. Their PERSONAL lives! Is our society really so depraved that they must feed off this?

    1. What's funny is that the main story on this very site for a couple days was "Terrell Owens in a porno movie?".

It's the job of the media to report anything and everything. I'll be the first to admit that point. It makes them money for the more sleazy and dirty. Yes, it's not sports however it deals with athletes and that makes a story nonetheless.

    2. I replied to that story the same way I did on this one. You can go check. It's not my business to delve into their lives and I don't think it should be anyone elses either.

  15. This Biff is a real piece of work. he is a real class act.

  16. Mindy McCready is on record as "not refuting" anything in the original NY Daily News article.

However, the "affair" is alleged to have begun after she moved to Nashville, which was apparently when she was 18.

So, is this turns out to be the case, is Roger a pedophile? no, but is Roger a scumbag? no question!!!

Ryan, I know you've "met and hung out with Roger," but seriously, do you believe him? Celebrities can seem like "regular" people (because that's all they are) when you meet them, but do you really know him that well to make judgments not based on facts?

    1. Again, I never said that there's 100% no way these stories are true, but you get gut feelings. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if I was wrong and he did in fact have an affair. Again, I simply stated what I got from those experiences.

  19. Sure, this is tabloid stuff; but in America's media-driven culture of entertainment celebrities, evrything seems to be fair game. Much of America is funny; a good amount of us seems to enjoy associating ourselves with sheer winners at the top of their game. But when they get some rust or cobwebs, many of us seem to enjoy making them fallible again.

That said, the court of public opinion seems to matter more than a court of law.

Whether it was Marion Jones' consistent denials, Rafael Palmeiro's loud and emphatic denial or a certain former president saying, "I did not have relations with that woman.", many Americans tend to believe what is likely rather than what is said.

Sports heroes are human; nothing new here. Unfortunately for Clemens, because his integrity has been scrutinized because of these steroid accusations, the timing of this humanization could not come at a worse time.

  20. In the photo accompanying this article, it's obvious Clemens is checking out McCready. He's thinking, "Back that ass up!"

Whether guilty or not of a sexual relationship, this kinda' undermines that defamation lawsuit he's workin' on, don't it?

  21. Wasn't Mindy McCready's biggest hit "Guys do ME.....I mean IT...all the time"

OK offsides on me...Lord I apologize for that....

  22. No one needs to write another thing about Clemens after this....his ugly past will keep unfolding until he is completely ruined

  23. im just glad barry bonds isnt the ultimate villian anymore. trust me pretty soon another big name will fall victim to the steroid scandal and roger will go away too. so sad for baseball, its like the last ten years or so never happened, as most everybody that was any good was cheating and lying and apparently sleeping with 15 year old girls, allegedly.

  24. Am I the only person that finds it funny that a famous country music singer would just happen to "forget" to mention being raped by Roger Clemens when she was 15?To me this means it likely didnt happen.

    1. David,

No, you're not the only person to find it funny that suddenly McCready is singing to the press. She apparently has experienced a decline in popularity and needs publicity by any means necessary.

I have also wondered what she was doing in a bar at 15. No one here is naive, but statutory rape (if that is what happened) is a matter of the law.

She may not have been an adult, but she knew what she was doing and where she was. So did he. He can't pin this on anyone- can't blame it on his wife, his trainer, the press, Bud Selig or Jose Conseco.

Ironically, McCready needs this publicity and Clemens doesn't.

  25. This is where things get ugly for Clemens. It is a shame that because of the speculation that he used HGH now his entire family is feeling the backlash. Now dont get me wrong, I am not saying what he did was justifiable, but its not personal, its professional dealing with HGH. Sure this all could have been avoided if he would say that he used HGH. Although I believe he did, lets think for a second on the other side....what if he didnt and he is telling the truth? Now all of this information is coming out, some of which may be a lot of speculation. Sure it looks bad, but everyone can look bad in a certain light.

  26. awesome headline.

  27. Clemens is a Train Wreck, now they are also saying that he was sleeping with John Daley's ex. Which ex we are not sure, but knowing Roger's choice for ladies it is probably the one with the criminal record. What a mess this guy is turning out to be..how can his wife be singing 'Stand By Your Man'.. and the children...ughhh!
