Any Team USA Olympian who wanted to snap a selfie with President Barack Obama during their recent visit to the White House was out of luck.
Last week, Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was able to take a selfie with President Obama during the 2013 World Series champions' White House visit.
The picture was taken with a Samsung camera, which the company could use to its benefit.
According to TMZ Sports, members of the White House staff instructed the Olympians "not to even try it."
These athletes represented their country over at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, but they weren't allowed to snap selfies with the nation's most recognizable figure during their visit to Washington, D.C.
White House press secretary Jay Carney commented on the staff's objection to Ortiz's selfie last week, via WhiteHouse.gov:
Without getting into counsel’s discussions, I can tell you that as a rule the White House objects to attempts to use the President’s likeness for commercial purposes. And we certainly object in this case.
It looks like Ortiz and Samsung ruined the fun for everyone.
