Barcelona kept pace with Atletico Madrid atop La Liga with Saturday’s 3-1 win at home to Real Betis.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a quarter-hour, and he also found the back of the net following a saved penalty late in the second half.

Betis defender Jordi Figueras turned an Alexis Sanchez pass into his own goal to round out the Barcelona scoring, and Ruben Castro scored the guests’ loan goal of the afternoon.

Following are ratings and analysis for all the Barcelona players.

Half-Time analysis for Barcelona

Pinto: Had a pair of easy saves to make in the first half.

Alves: Executed a neat one-two with Messi that was nicely cut out by Jordi.

Mascherano: Continues his stint in the centre of defense with Puyol and Pique both injured.

Bartra: His distribution was lacking but he won three quarters of his aerial battles.

Adriano: Quite nearly set up both Pedro and Alves with a delightful ball across the face of goal.

Xavi: His 86% rate of passing completion is quite sub-standard.

Busquets: Made four tackles and earned a standing ovation from the crowd.

Iniesta: Another Barcelona playmaker with under 90% of his passes completed.

Pedro: Just not connecting well with Messi.

Messi: Made no mistake from the spot.

Alexis: Earned a soft penalty off Jordi to send Messi to the penalty spot.
