Updates from Friday, April 4
Angel Di Maria is not expected to start Real Madrid's La Liga clash with Real Sociedad, despite the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Carlo Ancelotti revealed, via ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan:
Ancelotti: “Di Maria is recovering and will travel. I do not believe he is going to start the game…"— Dermot Corrigan (@dermotmcorrigan) April 4, 2014
According to Football Espana, Angel Di Maria has been dropped from the squad for the match after failing to recover from gastroenteritis. His place in the side will be taken by Jose Rodriguez but his position will most likely to be filled by either Asier Illarramendi or Isco, per the report.
Marcelo's recent hamstring injury, per UEFA.com, has also ruled him out, so Carlo Ancelotti can ill do without the services of Di Maria down the left-hand side.
The Argentine reminded everyone just what he was capable of with an outstanding individual performance during the El Clasico clash against rivals Barcelona .
With important La Liga games on the horizon, along with the second leg of the tie against Dortmund and the Copa del Rey final against Barca, Ancelotti will need to be able to call on a player of Di Maria's experience.
There is no word yet regarding his return date, however. Any updates to his situation will be added to this story when they become available.
