Note: During the summer,  I published this call to action. It seems so relevant now that there are public issues and controversies surrounding the Oakland Raider head coach.

The Article, dated Jun. 17, 2009

Let's not be short-sighted.  Before the year is over, some NFL players are going to make mistakes in a social or legal context.

To help minimize some of the risks, wouldn't it be a good idea to have a conference to discuss some of the issues.

For example, invite some senior players and active players who have had social and legal troubles.  Create a list of questions to stimulate comments on their difficulties.  Ask them what they would tell the next generation of NFL players.

Invite a few social psychologists, judges and others to share their expertise.

Televise the conference and place it on the Internet or a DVD for distribution.  Then, make it mandatory homework for all of the players.

As a  reader of the draft of this proposal, please add your suggestions or comments.

Now if someone acts on this suggestion, don't leave me out of the planning.

I have something to say!
