Breaking News: ESPN Reports UCLA's Patrick Cowan Out for Season

Dee WilcoxAnalyst IApril 27, 2008

About an hour ago ESPN broke a story continuing from yesterday. The two UCLA QBs competing for a starting job in spring practices went down on back-to-back plays in non-contact practice.

Olson the first to go down has a broken metatarsal—a broken toe in layman's terms.

The next play, Cowan stepped in to take over the snaps when he went down awkwardly, resulting in an injury to his ACL. His injury is going to require season-ending surgery.

Today, Cowan was quoted saying to the press, "I dont know how bad it is, I just know I need surgery."

New head coach Rick Neuheisel was already facing a tough decision on making a pick for QB, but now he has a bigger problem on his hands—finding a backup.

More details to come when they become available.
