Usos Set to Defend Tag Team Titles in 4-Way Match at WrestleMania XXX
wwe.com

It was announced on Main Event and confirmed on WWE.com that the Usos will defend their tag team straps in a four-way match at WrestleMania XXX. The challenging teams include Ryback and Curtis Axel, The Real Americans and Los Matadores

On a positive note, the match should be a strong in-ring encounter if given time to play out. The two-hour WrestleMania preshow broadcast on the WWE Network gives the company a lot of wiggle room to stretch out some matches that would otherwise be crunched into the regular broadcast.

The downside is that this match is greatly underwhelming to fans of tag team wrestling. After more than a year of great tag action and the development of a highly competitive division, this match appears to have been thrown together at the last minute.

Ever since the New Age Outlaws lost the belts to the Usos on Raw in Chicago, Road Dogg and Billy Gunn have sat ringside at the announce table during the champs' matches. They've spoken of waiting their turn for a rematch. This is a standard wrestling storyline that stretches the feud out until the next pay-per-view.

Suddenly, the Outlaws didn't care about the tag titles, turned full heel and have joined Kane in a battle against The Shield.

Without the most recent champs interested in the belts, it would make sense that the previous champs would step up. For some reason, though the Rhodes' brothers have been preoccupied in a non-feud against Fandango that appears to be nothing more than Raw filler.

So with a future Hall of Fame tag team out and the most popular babyface tag team in the company out, the WWE booked a four-way to determine the No. 1 contenders for the tag titles on Smackdown. That match ended up being a conspiracy against The Shield, so no contenders were crowned.

I guess that means everyone gets a shot at the belts.

Of course, the Real Americans were just soundly defeated by The Shield on Raw. Ryback and Axel lost in a quick match to Los Matadores and were subsequently destroyed by The Shield.

This leaves us with two teams going into WrestleMania without momentum and two Puerto Rican wrestlers dressed like Mexican pirates with a small-statured person in a bull costume competing against unproven tag champs at WrestleMania.

Hopefully this match is shoved into the first hour of the preshow between hype videos for Undertaker-Brock Lesnar and Daniel Bryan-Triple H. I'd like to see the Real Americans come out new champs, but I have a feeling the Usos will retain by pinning Axel.

You just have to wonder why the WWE pulled the rug out of the Rhodes brothers so quickly—from red hot, main-event level tag champs to Battle Royal fodder in three months.

With Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose likely running as The Shield's tag representatives this summer and the Wyatt Family freed to challenge for the belts, the tag division could be much more interesting after WrestleMania. Unfortunately, we'll get a lackluster, throwaway bout on the biggest show of the year.
