Why Cleveland Needs a Hockey Team

Shane Quinn Contributor IIJune 16, 2009

In recent news, the Phoenix Coyotes have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The only person with a legitimate offer to buy the team, wants to relocate the team to Southern Ontario.

Rather than going north of the 49th, the perfect town for the Coyotes would be Cleveland.

For many years, I have begged and pleaded for a team in Cleveland. Oh, sure, there are NHL teams that have been in Cleveland in the past, but to have a hockey team in this day and age would be a great pleasure. Let me give my reasons.

Reason One: Cleveland is a great place for hockey. It is located near the shores of Lake Erie, a place better suited for hockey than the desert of Arizona, which brings me to my next point.

Reason Two: Phoenix is not a great place for hockey. It does not provide the right type of atmosphere, as Phoenix is known for it's very harsh, hot, and desolate climate

Reason Three: Pittsburgh needs a rival that has deep roots between the two cities
