On June 16, ESPN Soccernet reported that Manchester United are preparing to sign Gremio starlet Douglas Costa. Costa would be brought in as a potential replacement for Real Madrid-bound Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the Brazilian's agent.

Man United has been scouting Costa for the last several years and consider him to be one of the top five possible replacements in the world for Ronaldo.

Costa has been recruited by several South American clubs along with Man United for the U20 Brazilian international, who is considered to be a free kick specialist and is one of the top up and coming prospects from Brazil.

Costa has been previously linked with teams such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan over the past 18 months, along with Manchester United several months ago.

This appears to be one of the top moves on manager Sir Alex Ferguson's list to accomplish during this off season along with signing Wigan Athletic winger Antonia Valencia.
