Urban Meyer Taking Steps To Curb Arrest Frequency
The Independent Florida Alligator (The University of Florida's student newspaper) reported today that Florida football players will be participating in ride-alongs with the Gainesville Police Department.
The article can be found here.
The players will be riding in the front seat of police cruisers with on-duty officers in the hope that by seeing the police perspective on crime, they will be less likely to commit infractions themselves.
The media has blown the Gator's rap sheet out of proportion, but I'm glad the Florida staff has started taking some steps to reduce the arrests. The team already has a target on their backs and doesn't need to be giving the media, or anybody who happens to be unfortunate enough to be rooting for someone other than the Gators, any more ammunition.
