The Daily Star claimed an exclusive on Friday, when they reported that Liverpool are keen to bring Ashley Cole to Merseyside on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old England left-back looks to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge after falling down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho, and Brendan Rodgers could be keen to bring in an experienced player in a position in which the Reds have struggled for numbers this season.

talkSPORT claim that Liverpool could be set for a shock move to bring back their former youngster Antonio Barragan who has impressed in his native Spain with Valencia.

Barragan joined the Reds from Sevilla in 2005, and became the youngest foreign player to ever make his debut for the club when he played in a Champions League qualifier against CSKA Sofia that summer.

However, that remained his only appearance for the Reds until he returned to Spain a year after he arrived.

He has had spells with Deportivo, Valladolid and now Valencia, where he has developed the attacking side of his game in the last couple of seasons.

French international Jeremy Menez has confirmed that he'll leave Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in the summer, with Sky Sports reporting that Liverpool and Arsenal will make a move for the 26-year-old.

However Menez, formerly of Roma has indicated a willingness to return to Serie A, saying:

I had a great time in Rome. I already speak the language. I know Serie A, I know everything about it. The adaptation would be easy.

I am looking for a team that would make me rediscover the pleasure of playing football.

As for my character, I've changed. The rebellious image is a thing of the past. I am 26 years old and have a family which makes me calm. I'm more mature, and I can prove it on the field.

The Daily Express claim that Liverpool are ahead of Everton in a battle to sign the Hungarian winger Balazs Dzsudzsak for £12million in the summer.

It would be a surprise to see the Reds spend so much on a 27-year-old, but the paper's Ben Jefferson claims that Dzsudzsak is seen as an alternative to Dnipro's Yevhen Konoplyanka, who is now a target for Tottenham.

Brendan Rodgers has finally admitted for the first time that a new contract for full-back Glen Johnson is one of the club's priorities this summer.

Johnson has returned to the team in fine form in recent weeks after shaking off an long-standing ankle problem, but the fact that he has only one year to run on his present deal has been an issue of concern amongst Reds fans.

However speaking to the Liverpool Echo before the match against Sunderland, Rodgers said:

We want to keep Glen here.

There is no question about that, especially now he’s in this form. He’s 29 and we feel that he has still got good years ahead of him.

No contracts will be looked at until the summer but his will be a priority for us, especially if he continues in the form that he’s in.

Rodgers has also been discussing the future of Fabio Borini, the Reds forward who is on loan at Sunderland and therefore unable to face his parent club on Wednesday night.

The Italian has impressed on Wearside and become something of a fans' favourite at the The Stadium of Light, and with Liverpool likely to be facing extra matches next season following the likely qualification for the Champions League, Rodgers is keen to keep the forward at the club:

He told the official Liverpool website:

Fabio went out to get games, go on loan and play more regularly than he was playing here.

He has done that and showed with some of the goals he has scored - particularly against the big teams - the qualities that he has. The goal he scored in the Capital One Cup final was a fantastic goal.

He has gone away to get experience of playing. Fabio will come back in the summer and he will be better for having played that season. And we'll review it from there.

In order to focus on developing young Russian talents, M'Vila's current club, Rubin Kazan, have decided to make their foreign stars available for transfer.

After the 23-year-old friend of Reds defender Mamadou Sakho was spotted watching the Merseyside derby with Liverpool fans at Goodison Park in November, the radio station's website claim that he would be keen on a move.
