Michigan State 80, Harvard 73
No. 4 Michigan State responded like a champion against No. 12 Harvard in its victory in Spokane in East region play.
Harvard went on a 17-2 run during the middle of the second half, but the Spartans countered with an 11-1 run of their own.
The Spartans were able to keep their national championship dreams alive by hitting a few big threes and some clutch free throws down the stretch.
Gary Harris and Denzel Valentine hit triples before the under-four timeout to extend the lead to eight and the Spartans never looked back.
Harris also made four consecutive free throws at the end of the game to clinch the victory.
Branden Dawson helped Michigan State earn a 12-point lead at halftime and he ended the contest with a career-high 26 points.
Wesley Saunders scored 22 points in defeat for the Crimson, who fell in the third round for the second consecutive season.
