Updates from Saturday, March 22
Marcus Tillery of GoGrizzlies.com provides an update on Marc Gasol's injury:
Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol suffered a sprained ankle in Friday's game against the Miami Heat, according to Bleacher Report's Ethan J. Skolnick on Twitter:
Marc Gasol has a grade I left ankle sprain. Game time decision— Ronald Tillery (@CAGrizBeat) March 22, 2014
Gasol scored 14 points and pulled down six rebounds in 24 minutes of action before coming out of the game for good.
It's still unknown just how severe the injury is, but there's no doubt that David Joerger and the Grizzlies will be hoping for a speedy recovery and quick return to the court for Gasol. After all, Memphis is right in the mix in the Western Conference playoff race and can ill afford to lose games down the stretch.
The 29-year-old Gasol is the Grizzlies' third-leading scorer (13.8 PPG), second-leading rebounder (6.7 RPG) and top shot-blocker (1.5 BPG).
But Gasol has stepped up his game in the month of March, averaging 15.5 points and 7.6 rebounds in 33.4 minutes per night. As a result, the Grizzlies were 8-2 over that stretch heading into Friday's game against the Heat.
