The Champions Tour is visiting Biloxi this week for the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. This is the fifth event on the 2014 Champions Tour schedule and boasts one of the strongest fields of the year. The top 30 on the Charles Schwab Cup rankings, along with nine members of the World Golf Hall of Fame, will play at Fallen Oak.

Fallen Oak Golf Club, owned and operated by the Beau Rivage Hotel and Casino, has to be one of Tom Fazio’s best efforts, and opened for play in 2006. This challenging and beautiful layout features 84 bunkers, plays to a par 72 and can be stretched to 7,479 yards.

Nick Faldo will be making a rare start on the Champions Tour along with Ben Crenshaw, Colin Montgomerie and Fred Couples.

Michael Allen won here last year and will defend his title. This is the fifth edition of this tournament and other former winners include; David Eger (2010), Tom Lehman (2011) and Fred Couples (2012).

Eighty-one players are in the field vying for the $240,000 first-place check and a piece of the $1.6 million purse.

Bernhard Langer will be looking to extend his lead in the Charles Schwab Cup points race while Couples, Allen, Kirk Triplett and Duffy Waldorf, who round out the top five in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, will try to catch him.

In addition to great golf, the Mississippi Gulf Coast offers beautiful beaches, excellent hospitality and a plethora of delectable dining options. Gulfport and Biloxi are home to 12 casinos that provide excitement and entertainment away from the golf course.

C Spire Wireless is the presenting sponsor of the event, but the tournament also receives financial assistance from a unique consortium of 15 businesses that understand the importance of tourism to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Golf fans will be treated to a strong field and a great tournament this week at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic.
