From the South Region, the Eastern Kentucky Colonels are riding in on a three-game win streak against the betting line and looking to score an upset against the Kansas Jayhawks.

EKU is a highly volatile team offensively, as it’s gone over in five of its last seven. The offensive-minded Jayhawks have split their last 10 totals.

The Colonels have performed well as underdogs, and the Jayhawks have been excellent in covering big spreads.

The Jayhawks opened as 13-point favorites. The total has been bet up to 151 from an open of 148.5 on Monday. (Compare lines and consensus on the Odds Shark matchup report.)

Why pick Eastern Kentucky to cover the spread

The No. 15 Colonels are dancing thanks to their Ohio Valley Conference championship, and they arrive on winning streaks of 7-0 straight up and 5-2 against the point spread.

Eastern Kentucky also comes in riding a 5-1 win streak against the betting line when installed as the underdog, according to the March Madness database at OddsShark.com.

Why pick Kansas to cover the spread

Second-seeded Kansas, an at-large pick from the Big 12 conference, may be a freshman-laden team, but it's also on winning runs of 7-0 straight up and 6-1 against the betting line when installed as a double-digit favorite by the oddsmakers.

Frosh Andrew Wiggins came into the season considered to be the best high school prospect since LeBron James. He is living up to the hype.

Smart betting pick

The first inclination in a No. 2 vs. No. 15 matchup is to lay the points. But Kansas is a little dinged up and could be without 7-footer Joel Embiid, who suffered a stress fracture in his lower back. He accounts for a big part of this team’s production, and he discourages opponents from playing in the paint.

EKU’s shooting game is no slouch. The Colonels lost their two most recent tourney outings, but they covered both games. Play the underdog and take advantage of Kansas' jitters.
