Sam Allardyce and the Hypocrisy of Blackburn Supporters

The vast majority of BRFC supporters are a bunch of hypocrites. That's probably the case at most clubs not just Blackburn Rovers.

In the fans eyes Sam Allardyce has suddenly become a managerial genius overnight. The best man for the club many have stated.

All very different to the reaction last summer to his potential appointment.

When Allardyce was linked to the role fans reacted with anger. Groups were set up on social networking sites and petitions handed in at Ewood. This measure of protest was undertaken in an attempt to dissuade the board from appointing him. Allardyce withdrew his application so whether it worked or not we may never find out.

In December the club appointed Allardyce following the removal of Paul Ince. The club's situation at the time could best be described as dire. Something that could be considered the case at the moment since a takeover hasn't happened yet.

Allardyce succeeded in his task keeping Blackburn in the Premier League. Elsewhere Paul Hart (failed Championship level manager) and Brian Kidd (who had a spell at Ewood which if you described as garbage would be an understatement) managed to keep Portsmouth up after the Tony Adams appointment didn't work out. What a shocker that was.

So if even Hart and Kidd could play the role of saviours the task of avoiding relegation couldn't have been that hard right? According to many Blackburn supporters Allardyce is now a genius. Should have been appointed in the summer, etc.

What a load of hypocrisy.

One fan on the supporters site boycotted Ewood after his appointment sticking to his viewpoint in the summer. Since then he's been roundly criticised by the majority of fans.

I admire people who stick to their word. Allardyce has done nothing differently in terms of his overall style which overnight Rovers fans have applauded.

Do I hate Allardyce?

No. My reasons for not wanting him were clear enough.

In the summer I wanted Henk Ten Cate. Michael Laudrup was someone I also saw as a good option which considering he's recently been sacked may well have been a poor choice.

In December I wanted Roberto Mancini who applied and was interviewed for the manager's role. In my opinion Mancini would have kept the club up and been a far better appointment in the long term. Who would be more likely to appeal to potential buyers for the club? A world renowned star like Roberto Mancini or a man with a name like "Allardyce."

Allardyce is aware of the pitfalls that such a name can bring. He even claimed his name was the reason he didn't get offered the England role. Aside from better candidates another reason I didn't want him was his image.

Though he was born in the Midlands he has a Northern image. Blackbrun supporters are often a little small minded and parochial. I say that because I recognise my own club's supporters faults just as much as I recognise the faults of other clubs fans.

Appointing a northern manager is not the image I want for Blackburn Rovers. Roberto Mancini would have forced the fans to think on a national rather than parochial level. Allardyce brings out the most parochial mentalities in BRFC fans.
