A chip stack is by far the most important thing in a casino game. In poker for example, a size of one’s chip stack can allow that person to dictate the pace of the game and the aggression level. That player can force other player out of the game, or can make them doubt their own hand.
We have all heard plenty of times, that life is a gamble. Life, just like a game, provides us with chances and risk opportunities. Taking a risk may result in disaster, or in a lucky break. Our life and what we have achieved is our chip stack. The bigger it is, the more we can control. The president has the biggest chip stack, while a homeless person is trying to catch a lucky break with their last chip.
But every game is different. The game of boxing has its own heroes, and its own “Phil Ivy” (for those of you who don’t know, he is one of the most respected poker players in the world). In boxing, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has a chip stack overshadowing most players at the table. He has earned so much that he can get away with almost anything and not have to worry about the post effect.
Just recently, Floyd announced that his fight with JMM has to be postponed, due to a rib injury attained during his practice. This is very disappointing (not only because I already got my tickets), because this was a much anticipated fight, and the fans were ready to see who will be the next in line for Pacquiao.
As soon as this happened, the fans went wild. Accusation started to pile up: people saying that he is afraid to fight Marquez, that this injury is a fake, and that they just want to hype up the fight a little more to get bigger numbers. Along with many fans, I also think there is no rib injury, and that their motive for this action is something more financially driven.
But the point it, we can whine all we want; in the end we are just low stacks at the table, not liking where the leader is taking this game. No matter what, once the fight is back on, we will all buy those tickets back, plan our PPV parties, and place out bets. More importantly, we will want to see this fight at least as much, if not more than before.
Sure it’s disappointing, and unfair to us as fans. The thing is, this happens all the time; the only difference is that this happened with Floyd Mayweather Jr. We are used to him being impenetrable, and ready to fight. Now that he is claiming an injury, what does this mean?
Is Floyd trying to beat more candy out of the piñata, or is the injury real, making it seem like his body is not what it used to be?
