Real Madrid stretched their Primera Division lead to six points with a 1-0 win away to Malaga, Saturday.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the game’s only goal, and throughout the 90 minutes the hosts had plenty of opportunities to find the back of the net, themselves.

But at the final whistle a gutsy, responsible display from Madrid had been enough to see off a pesky opponent, and they can now turn their attention to a Champions League second-leg against Schalke and next weekend’s Clasico.

Following are player ratings and analysis for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid Player Ratings
Player Half-Time Full-Time
Lopez 8 9
Carvajal 8 8
Varane 9 8
Pepe 8 7
Marcelo 8 7

Alonso 8 9
Isco 8 7
Bale 8 8
Benzema 7 7
Ronaldo 9 8
Di Maria 8 8
Jese N/A 7
Illarramendi N/A 7

Lopez: Had just a single save to make in the first half.

Carvajal: Executed a clean, important tackle on Amrabat as half-time approached.

Varane: His breakout passes have been superb.

Pepe: Has so far won just a third of his aerial battles.

Marcelo: Finding Amrabat and Samuel to be a handful.

Modric: Distribution has been below par for the Croatian.

Alonso: Made a pair of tackles to help turn play the other way.

Isco: Now operating as a “false 9” given the exit of Benzema.

Bale: Made a vital clearance on a Malaga corner midway through the opening period.

Benzema: Withdrawn in the 32nd minute after sustaining a leg injury.

Ronaldo: Has now scored 13 goals in 12 career matches against Malaga.

Di Maria: Wanted to sit this one out in preparation for the Clasico, but was introduced when Benzema limped off.

Full-Time analysis for Real Madrid

Lopez: Made four saves on the night and provided a quiet confidence behind the defence.

Carvajal: Amrabat proved a handful, but the right-back stood up to the challenge.

Varane: Deputised well for the suspended Sergio Ramos.

Pepe: Should have been sent off for a studs-up tackle on Duda.

Marcelo: The captain for a day performed well in his own end, where he successfully executed two tackles.

Modric: Distribution was rather poor, but he played one of the passes of the season shortly before being substituted.

Alonso: Rock solid on the defensive side of the ball.

Isco: Came off to a standing ovation in his former stadium shortly after the hour-mark.

Bale: A decent display in each third of the park, although he might have contributed more offenseively.

Benzema: Withdrawn in the 32nd minute after sustaining a leg injury.

Ronaldo: Had 10 attempts from just 48 touches, but struggled to test Willy after opening the scoring.

Di Maria: Offers so much in the centre of the park.

Jese: Replaced Isco in the 63rd minute but was only involved in two or three meaningful pieces of buildup play.

Illarramendi: Came on late to help hold the lead.
