With The 19th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles...scared and upset me.
They accomplished this by trading their first-round pick to the Carolina Panthers. Many Eagles fans, myself inclueded, were angered by this. The Eagles could have picked up an offensive lineman or a defensive back, but I really wanted the Eagles to get wide receiver Devin Thomas.
Unfortunately, they missed out on him. Second round comes along, and I notice that no receivers were drafted in the first round, so the Eagles still had a chance!
Their pick comes along, and they pick...defensive tackle, Trevor Laws. That's okay, they have another pick after the Redskins...which is right after the Eagles' first second-round pick. Now Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles must draft a go to guy. Limas Sweed was still not taken, neither was DeSean Jackson. Limas is pretty good. DeSean, really good in my opinion.
In early February I searched, "Wide Receivers in 2008 NFL Draft". I then found DeSean. I saw a lot of his videos on YouTube. Oh yeah, and not only is he a receiver, but a kick returner as well. He seemed perfect for the Eagles. Apparently, the Eagles thought so too. I crossed my fingers, closed my eyes, and heard they drafted him.
Just when I thought the Philadelphia Eagles could not get any dumber, they redeem themselves.

The time has arrived to escort Jeffrey Lurie from Philadelphia; lashed to the rear dumpster of a Philly trash truck, dressed in a pink tutu and a Bon Jovi T-shirt, Lurie should be pelted with scalding cheesesteaks and full cans of Schaffer beer, mocked and disdained, as his cheap and avaricious brand of football is driven from our disgusted vision for the last time. If, through a miracle of scientific insertion, a small segment of coal could placed between Lurie's thumb and the relentless grip of the pennies he holds there, a flawless diamond would surely appear. For the 2nd year in a row, by no accident and for no other reason than accounting, a 1st round draft pick is passed over and the Eagles and their fans come away with nothing. (Lurie will not deal with 1st round picks and their agents expecting a minimum of $15 to $20 million to sign. He assumes he has saved himslef at least $30 million in 2 drafts; meanwhile, the Eagles are an 8-8 LAST PLACE team.) There is no concern for winning NOW within the Eagles organization as the dim and feckless Joe Banner and dingleberry clinging walrus parasite Andy Reid continue their gutless servitude to Lurie and his overstuffed coffers. Meanwhile, the Cowboys aquire Felix Jones, (who would have complimented and benefitted Brian Westbrook), certifying their hold on the division, (Giants be damned; the triumph of mediocrity is past and bizarre fortune comes to the curb one time only), and the Eagles will continue their mudslide from bridesmaids to permanent cellar denizens. How much...how much...how much longer? The faithful deserve better. Banish Lurie and if he takes the Eagles with him, so be it. Another franchise will arrive within a year. We will rebuild. And the fans will prevail.
