Juventus vs. Fiorentina: Live Player Ratings

Fiorentina have a slight advantage following Thursday’s Europa League Round of 16 first leg thanks to a late Mario Gomez goal that allowed them to escape Juventus Stadium with a 1-1 draw.

Arturo Vidal had opened the scoring for Juventus inside three minutes, but the substitute Gomez did ever so well to control a Josip Ilicic cross before sliding the ball past Gianluigi Buffon with 11 minutes left to play

Following are player ratings and analysis for both sides.

Half-Time analysis for Juventus

Buffon: Had to be alert to catch several cross-goal passes.

Caceres: Gifted the guests the ball in the moments after kickoff.

Chiellini: Bombed forward on a rare run into the attacking third with five minutes remaining in the first half.

Ogbonna: Made a vital deflection on Valero’s shot, which had Buffon beaten.

Isla: Is adding an attacking outlet from the right only in flashes.

Vidal: The box-to-boxer scored once and hit the crossbar twice in the opening period.

Pirlo: His sublime cross to Vidal midway through the first half would have been an assist had the Chilean not hit the woodwork.

Marchisio: Set up the Vidal goal with a lovely, improvised ball into the box.

Asamoah: Began the play that led to the goal when he passed inside to Marchisio.

Osvaldo: Showing some creativity but has touched the ball only 14 times so far.

Giovinco: Chested Marchisio’s ball to ground for Vidal to score.

Full-Time analysis for Juventus

Buffon: Sharply made a pair of late saves on Gomez and Vargas.

Caceres: Nearly scored an own-goal when he chested a Fiorentina cross back to Buffon.

Chiellini: The Italy international made several important interventions while occasionally bombing forward.

Ogbonna: His passing was excellent, but he sometimes looks rather nervous on the defensive side of the ball.

Isla: Didn’t add much and was replaced by Padoin.

Vidal: Fourteen of his 18 goals this season have come at home.

Pirlo: Made an absolutely vital defensive intervention on Ilicic midway through the second half.

Marchisio: Conceded possession in the buildup to the Gomez equaliser.

Asamoah: Played in several good crosses but didn’t touch the ball as much as he’d have liked.

Osvaldo: Substituted after touching the ball just 16 times in 75 minutes.

Giovinco: Picked up an assist and hit the side-netting in a solid day’s work.

Llorente: Is at his best alongside Tevez.

Pogba: Replaced Osvaldo with 15 minutes to play.

Padoin: Touched the ball just seven times in a brief cameo.

Half-Time analysis for Fiorentina

Neto: Burst off his line to beat Giovinco to a loose ball.

Roncaglia: Struggling to contain the runs of Asamoah.

Rodriguez: Might have done better to disrupt Giovinco in the buildup to the goal.

Savic: His outlet passes have been useful.

Tomovic: Adding Fiorentina’s attacking wideth from the left.

Pizarro: Got involved in a shoving match with Vidal.

Valero: Would have equalised but for Ogbonna’s late block.

Aquilani: No one on either side has touched the ball more.

Fernandez: Had a chance to score when he burst in from the left, only to be denied by Buffon.

Ilicic: Distribution has been good, although he could link up better with Matri.

Matri: Just nine touches of the ball so far.

Full-Time analysis for Fiorentina

Neto: The 24-year-old made five important saves.

Roncaglia: Got the better of Asamoah in the second half.

Rodriguez: Made a pair of important tackles in the Fiorentina goalmouth.

Savic: Won all of his aerial battles.

Tomovic: Completely neutralised Isla.

Pizarro: Didn’t shy away from the wars.

Valero: His stunning drive from distance forced Buffon into the best save of the night.

Aquilani: He touched the ball 71 times but managed to create little.

Fernandez: Withdrawn shortly after the restart with an ankle injury.

Ilicic: Delivered the arching ball that found Gomez for the equaliser.

Matri: Touched the ball just 16 times before being substituted.

Ambrosini: Replaced Fernandez and put in a useful 39 minutes.

Gomez: Took his goal exceptionally well and would have had a second but for a superb Buffon save.

Vargas: Was introduced to stretch Juventus horizontally and helped accomplish just that.
