Defending Craftsman Truck Series champion Johnny Benson was injured after crashing in a SuperModified race at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich., on Saturday, numerous media outlets reported.

Benson is in serious condition at Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids but "is expected to be fine," according to WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids.

Benson was coming around to take his second lap when the wreck occurred with Larry Lehnert. Benson's car caught on fire. Benson was extracted from the vehicle and the fire was extinguished.

Benson lost his Camping World Truck Series ride Monday when Red Horse Racing folded his team because it couldn't find sponsorship for the defending Truck Series champion.
