6/13/09 - Two LSU Football Players, Chad Jones and Jared Mitchell, along with the rest of the LSU Tiger Baseball team just made the SEC 2-0 in the College World Series as the Tigers Gorilla Balled the UVA Cavaliers 9-5 in game 2 in Omaha.

Jared Mitchell made a couple of nice plays in the outfield but did not figure much in the offense as he continues to struggle against lefties.  The rest of the Tigers, however, broke the noose Left hander’s have had around their neck all year.  The Tigers got to Virginia Ace Danny Hultzen (LHP) early and often.  The game was very close and went back and forth until late in the game when DJ Lemahieu came through with an RBI single followed by a two-run BLAST by Ryan Schimpf to cap the scoring.

Chad 'Dreadlocks of Doom' Jones, the Tiger's secret weapon according to Coach Paul Mainieri, came in with two outs in the top of the Seventh to get a key out with runners on first and second.

Coach Mainieri then made a statement, WIN NOW, by bringing in SEC Pitcher of the Year Louis Coleman, Monday's scheduled starter, to start the eighth inning.  He hit one batter but other than that was un-hittable and held the Cavs in check allowing the Tigers to take a one run lead into the bottom of the eighth.

Thanks to the aforementioned Lemahieu and Schimpf, freshman phenom closer Matty ott came into the ninth inning with a 4 run cushion and kept intact to earn his 17th save of the season.

There is still a long way to go but the Tigers looked good in the opener in Omaha.  In the earlier frame the Razorbacks, considered by many to be one of the weaker teams in the CWS fairly convincingly defeated the #2 overall seed Cal State Fullerton, who will now meet UVA in the loser's bracket.  S E C, S E C...
