Blake Bortles is currently looking to become the second Central Florida quarterback to ever be drafted, and his chances look decent as of now.
A lot of buzz is surrounding the potential top pick, from girlfriend Lindsey Duke to some guy named Johnny Manziel, so here's what the Twitterverse has contributed to the hype surrounding the former Knight.
Everyone knows Manziel isn't a physical specimen, stature-wise. Even so, it seems like it'll be between Bortles and Manziel for the top quarterback taken.
But the best thing out there involving both men is this tweet that clearly references Manziel's height comparison to that of Bortles:
Hilarious. RT @Kevin_Hine: One of Blake Bortles' advisers to him at the Combine: "Stand next to Johnny Manziel as much as possible."— RosterWatch (@RosterWatch) March 9, 2014
Even though he has proved he's a top-tier prospect, Bortles is still drawing some unfortunate comparisons.
Take a look at how his senior-year numbers compare with the New England Patriots' backup:
Final Year of College Blake Bortles 67.8%, 3581 YD, 25 TD, 9 INT, 109.6 rating Ryan Mallet 64.7%, 3869 YD, 32 TD, 12 INT, 109.0 rating— Deep Threat (@DeeepThreat) March 9, 2014
And how dare someone compare him to this bust:
Blake Bortles smells like Blaine Gabbert all over again. Hope the Texans don't fall for the Jig— Cuffs The Legend (@CuffsTheLegend) March 6, 2014
But even if some doubt his on-the-field abilities, there are others who praise the reputation he left behind at his alma mater:
In what is quite possibly the best tidbit from pre-draft Bortles buzz, it was reported that NFL team had one pressing question to ask.
It wasn't about his throwing mechanics or his ability to move outside the pocket, but rather his significant other:
Even if teams are wondering more about Duke than Bortles himself, I still think many general managers view him in high regard. Daunte Culpepper went No. 11 out of UCF in 1999. Look for Mr. Bortles to go 10 spots higher 15 years later.
