Brad Pickett wasn't as dominant as expected against UFC newcomer Neil Seery, but he got his win in a successful debut at 125 pounds.
Having a recognizable name and a win over flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, Pickett could be on the fast track to a title shot in the flyweight division. One more win over a highly ranked opponent could get him a chance to claim UFC gold.
In other flyweight news, Louis Gaudinot returned to the win column by submitting Phil Harris at UFC Fight Night 37.
Official UFC Flyweight Rankings
Champion: Demetrious Johnson
- John Dodson
- Joseph Benavidez
- Ian McCall
- John Moraga
- Ali Bagautinov
- John Lineker (+1)
- Jussier Formiga (-1)
- Tim Elliott
- Chris Cariaso
- Zach Makovsky
- Brad Pickett (NR)
- Louis Gaudinot (-1)
- Dustin Ortiz
- Scott Jorgensen (-2)
- Darrell Montague (-1)
Scott Jorgensen is still looking for his first win at 125 pounds. The former bantamweight lost his divisional debut against Zach Makovsky and will look to get the wheels turning against Jussier Formiga in March.
Although Dustin Ortiz only has one UFC win, he deserves a higher ranking than Jorgensen right now. The 25-year-old arguably defeated former title challenger John Moraga in January, falling in a controversial split decision.
With Moraga sitting in the No. 4 position, Ortiz should be ranked higher than Jorgensen, who was defeated more convincingly by the No. 10 125-pounder.
While Formiga only has one UFC win, he had a stronger resume than John Lineker prior to the organization's introduction of a 125-pound class.
Formiga has also made weight regularly since joining the UFC roster. Lineker, meanwhile, has missed weight for half of his UFC bouts and nearly came in overweight again for his most recent fight against Ali Bagautinov.
At some point, competing as a bantamweight in the flyweight division has to start hurting Lineker in the rankings.
